Hi Microsoft Certification Support and community,

My name is Phi Hung.

I am trying to register for the exam "Microsoft Certified: Azure Developer Associate" but my Microsoft Certification account is currently "Hard Locked".

Error message:

"Your account has been blocked due to multiple failed payment attempts"

This happened because I tried to redeem some promotional vouchers that were expired or invalid. I did not commit any fraud — this is my legitimate main account.

When I try to register the exam, I also receive:

"Unexpected error. We encountered an unexpected error. Please try again later. If this issue continues, please contact site support."

I have already:

  • Contacted Pearson VUE Live Chat (they asked me to call, but my English speaking is limited)
  • Submitted email form to Pearson VUE Asia-Pacific

Request:

  1. Unlock my current Microsoft Certification account

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The error and hard lock are caused by Pearson VUE, not by the Microsoft Learn profile itself. ERROR_VUE_WIDE_BLOCK ("account has been blocked" / "unexpected error") typically occurs when Pearson VUE has blocked the testing profile, usually due to multiple failed payments or similar issues with exam purchases or vouchers.

Unlocking or recreating the certification profile cannot be done through the Microsoft Q&A forum or Microsoft Learn UI; it must be handled directly by Pearson VUE support. Microsoft support will also direct to Pearson VUE for this specific block.

    Actionable steps:

    1. Contact Pearson VUE Microsoft support (required to remove the block)
      • Use the Pearson VUE Microsoft contact channel referenced in the documentation:
      • Clearly state:
        • The exact error text ("Your account has been blocked due to multiple failed payment attempts" and the "Unexpected error" when scheduling).
        • That the issue started after trying to redeem expired/invalid promotional vouchers.
      • Ask specifically for:
        • Review and removal of the "VUE-wide block" / account block on the Pearson VUE profile linked to the Microsoft Certification account.
    2. If web or phone is difficult, use written channels
      • Since spoken English is a concern, use email or web form where available for the Pearson VUE region (Asia-Pacific) and request all communication by email.
      • Provide:
        • Full name as on the Pearson VUE profile
        • Email address used for the Microsoft Certification / Pearson VUE account
        • Microsoft Certification ID (if known)
    3. Use Microsoft Certification support only if Pearson VUE confirms no block
      • If Pearson VUE confirms the block is removed but the error persists, then open a Microsoft Credentials support case so they can check the Microsoft side of the profile:
      • Describe that Pearson VUE has already lifted the block and attach any case numbers from Pearson VUE.
    4. Do not create a new certification profile unless instructed
      • Creating a second Microsoft Certification profile can cause transcript and badge fragmentation.
      • Only create a new profile if Microsoft Credentials support explicitly instructs to do so and confirms how to handle merging or future access.

Until Pearson VUE removes the block, the "Unexpected error" and "account has been blocked" messages will continue, and exam registration (including with valid vouchers) will fail.
