An Xbox or Microsoft gift card redeemed to a Microsoft account becomes Microsoft account balance, which can then be spent in the Microsoft Store on Xbox, Windows, or online.
From that balance:
- Minecraft for PC can be purchased if it is offered in the Microsoft Store for the region and platform, since gift card balance can be used for apps and games.
- Hardware such as controllers can also be purchased from the Microsoft Store using the same balance, except in Taiwan where gift cards cannot be used to buy hardware.
The key is to redeem the gift card to the same Microsoft account that will be used to buy Minecraft and the controller. Once redeemed, the balance is just “money in the Microsoft account” and can be used for eligible products, including Xbox-related content and physical goods, subject to regional restrictions.
