Only a Global Administrator in the affected Microsoft Entra tenant can delete that tenant. The documented process requires:
- Ensuring the tenant passes all deletion checks (no extra users, apps, MFA providers, or active subscriptions) and that all invoices are paid.
- Canceling and deleting any associated Azure, Microsoft 365, or self-service sign-up products.
- Deleting the organization from the Microsoft Entra admin center as a Global Administrator.
Because Global Administrator access is required and the tenant cannot authenticate, self-service deletion is not possible in this scenario. The documented guidance for blocked or inaccessible tenants (for example, AADSTS5000225 or inactive/blocked tenants) is to contact Microsoft support so an administrator can work with Microsoft to reactivate or otherwise handle the tenant. For personal Microsoft accounts and email/billing issues, the recommended path is to open a support request under the Outlook/consumer account support channel rather than Azure-only support.
In this case, the next step is to work with Microsoft support (account/billing/Outlook channel) to:
- Verify identity and ownership of the personal Microsoft account and the associated tenant.
- Have support escalate internally (Data Protection / account recovery / tenant recovery teams) to either:
- Restore administrative access so the documented deletion steps can be followed, or
- Handle tenant and subscription cleanup on the backend according to Microsoft’s internal processes.
There is no supported self-service method in the documentation to delete a tenant when Global Administrator access is unavailable and the tenant cannot issue tokens.
