Opening the snipping tool on a different desktop opens it on the desktop it was first used on. Microsoft, please let us use the snipping tool on different desktops.

This is similar to a previous question but pertains to the snipping tool.

Whichever desktop I open a new one, it snaps back to the first desktop I opened it on. This is soooo frustrating!

Every time I reboot, the process starts again! (And reboots are very frequent now, due to updates all the time!)

This has been happening to me since Windows 11. I can't believe Microsoft hasn't fixed it in an update yet.

Especially annoying is that the markup screen displays partially off the screen. I have to move it left before I can make it full-screen.

I've tried everything to correct it back to how it was in Windows 10 (perfect), but to no avail.

I can't wait for a fix as I use Snipping Tool multiple times/day.

I understand how frustrating it can be when how frustrating it is when the Snipping Tool always re-opens on the original virtual desktop instead of the one you’re currently using.

Before we continue, I’d like to ask a couple of quick questions to better narrow this down:

Are you launching Snipping Tool manually (Start menu) or using the shortcut Windows key + Shift + S?
Does the issue occur with other apps as well, or only with Snipping Tool?

I have tried both methods, but usually I use the "manual" - sidebar, launch from there.

Yes the issue occurs with other apps, excel and word bein most notable, in fact anything from Office 360 suite. Yes I've already adjusted the settings for multiple desktops/apps as per other advice.

Maybe you should try reproducing the issue and then put a bug report into Microsoft devs?

Thank you for your answer. You can try the following steps:

In-place upgrade is a process wherein it will upgrade the device to the latest version and repair many issues without deleting any files. Usually, it is used to repair corrupted system files, apps, and even incompatible drivers on the system.

Go to the Windows 11 website: Download Windows 11

Under Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO) select Windows 11 (multi-edition ISO).

Once you've downloaded the ISO file, right-click on it and select Mount, then click Setup.exe.

User Account Control may appear. If so, click Yes.

In the Install Windows 11 dialog box, click Next.

The setup will check your PC and display a license agreement. Click Accept in the license terms box.

Wait for Setup to verify the available free space.

On the Ready to install page, make sure Keep personal files and apps is checked.

Then click Install and follow the instructions.

Windows 11 will restart your device multiple times and take you to the lock screen. Depending on the options you've configured, it will keep all your files, apps, and user accounts.

are you suggesting there's a known issue in W11 and updating to the next one ( release: Windows 11 2025 Update l Version 25H2) will fix it? If so can you quote the tciket number and what was fixed? Thanks.

Hello abjq,

Download Windows 11 to make sure there are no issues with the current Windows version and to ensure the system is up to date.

I'm not going to do that, and one other user has confirmed my findings (see above, Pauline).

I would respectfully suggest instead that you confirm my sequence of events on your own installation.

You should be doing the work, not pushing back to the user. THanks.

AI said "the snipping tool is single instance" and spectacularly fails to recommend this fix - make the snipping tool multiple instance! - Just to pre-empt your answer.

Also please don't suggest I drag snipping tools between desktops, while this works, it's extremely tedious.
