Try these steps in order on the Windows 11 laptop.
- Forget and reconnect to Wi‑Fi
- Open Settings > Network & internet > Wi‑Fi.
- Select Manage known networks.
- Select the current Wi‑Fi network and choose Forget.
- Reconnect by selecting the Wi‑Fi network from the list and entering the password.
- Restart modem and router
- Unplug the router’s power cable.
- Unplug the modem’s power cable (and remove its battery if the lights stay on).
- Wait at least 30 seconds.
- Reinstall the modem battery (if removed) and plug the modem back in; wait until its lights stabilize.
- Plug the router back in and wait a few minutes until it is fully on.
- Try connecting again from the laptop.
- Renew IP configuration and flush DNS
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
- Run:
ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew ipconfig /flushdns - Test the internet connection again.
- Uninstall and reinstall the Wi‑Fi adapter driver
- Download the latest Wi‑Fi driver from the PC manufacturer on another device and copy it to a USB drive (in case Windows does not reinstall automatically).
- On the laptop, select Search on the taskbar, type Device Manager, and open it.
- Expand Network adapters and locate the wireless adapter.
- Right‑click it and select Uninstall device.
- Check Attempt to remove the driver for this device, then select Uninstall.
- Select Start > Power > Restart.
- After restart, Windows should reinstall the adapter automatically. If it doesn’t, install the driver from the USB.
- Disable power saving for the Wi‑Fi adapter
- Open Device Manager and expand Network adapters.
- Right‑click the Wi‑Fi adapter and choose Properties.
- Go to the Power Management tab.
- Clear Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
- If Ethernet is also affected, use Network reset (last resort)
- Open Settings > Network & internet.
- On Windows 11, select Advanced network settings > Network reset.
- Select Reset now > Yes.
- The PC restarts and network adapters are reinstalled with default settings.
- Reconnect to Wi‑Fi and reconfigure any VPN or virtual switches if used.
- Check Windows Update
- Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates and install any available updates, then restart.
If Wi‑Fi still does not appear at all in Network & internet, or Settings crashes when opening Network, an in‑place repair upgrade of Windows 11 using the ISO (run Setup.exe and choose to keep files and apps) can repair damaged networking components while keeping data and apps.
