How do I get my Skype credit back to me now that Microsoft is officially retiring Skype?

I consider this my money and I'd like it back.

Skype Credit is treated as a paid Skype product that can still be used, not automatically refunded.

Key points from the current Skype retirement and refund guidance:

    1. Use existing Skype Credit before services end
      • Skype Credit can still be used for calling via the Skype Dial Pad from the Skype web portal and within Microsoft Teams Free for remaining paid users.
      • Download Microsoft Teams Free from the official Microsoft Teams website and sign in with the same Skype credentials to access the Dial Pad and use the remaining credit.
      • If the Skype Dial Pad is not visible in Teams because the credit is inactive, reactivate it first in My Account:
        1. Go to the Skype Credit reactivation page: https://secure.skype.com/portal/settings/credit/reactivate
        2. Select Reactivate Credit.
        3. It can take up to 15 minutes; an email is sent when reactivation completes.
    2. When Skype Credit goes inactive
      • Skype Credit becomes inactive after 180 days of no use (no calls or texts outside any subscription).
      • A reminder email is sent 7 days before credit becomes inactive.
    3. Standard refund rules for Skype purchases
      • Refunds are only available in line with Skype’s refund policy in the Skype Terms of Use.
      • Refunds cannot be given for charges older than 90 days.
      • Refunds cannot be given for subscriptions that have been used or have expired.
      • For eligible purchases, the process is:
        1. Sign in to the correct Skype account.
        2. Go to purchase history.
        3. If a Refund button appears for a transaction, select Refund, then Confirm Refund. The refund is issued to the same payment method used.
      • If the Refund button is not available and the purchase is believed to be eligible under the policy, verify that the correct Skype account is being used and then contact Skype customer support.
    4. Refunds for subscriptions extending beyond May 1, 2026
      • End of Skype subscription service is May 1, 2026.
      • If there are multiple subscriptions and any extend beyond May 1, 2026, those subscriptions will be cancelled and converted into Skype Credit.
      • If Skype Credit is not desired in that scenario, after May 1, 2026 the user is eligible for a refund instead of keeping the converted credit. In that case, contact Skype customer support to request a refund for the cancelled subscription(s).
    5. When refunds are not available
      • No refunds for Skype Numbers once used, because they are considered used from the moment of purchase.
      • No refunds for purchases made through third-party partners, vouchers, prepaid cards, cash purchases via third-party methods, or Skype Credit allocated by a Skype Manager admin.
    6. If the Dial Pad is missing but credit exists
      • The Skype Dial Pad is only available to existing paid users from the Skype web portal and within Teams Free.
      • If the web portal shows “You don’t have any paid product right now,” either:
      • To ensure the correct account is used, compare the Skype Name on the Skype Profile page (https://secure.skype.com/portal/profile) with the Skype Name mentioned in any email about the credit.
    7. If a direct refund is still desired
      • For standard Skype Credit that does not fall under the special post–May 1, 2026 subscription conversion case, refunds are limited by the 90‑day and usage rules above.
      • If the situation appears to meet the refund policy but the self‑service Refund option is unavailable, contact Skype customer support for assistance.

Good day @Diana Bald, and I appreciate the clear explanation of your concern.

Just to gently clarify before we go any further, this is a user‑to‑user support forum. I don’t have the ability to access or investigate individual accounts because this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators and contributors, including external Microsoft employees, do not have access to internal systems or the ability to directly take action on Microsoft product features. However, I truly hope I can help review your situation, offer some guidance, and support you in finding the right next steps as best as possible.

Based on official Microsoft information, Skype Credit may be eligible for a refund only if it has not been used and the request is submitted within 14 days of the purchase date. In addition, charges made in error may be reviewed if they are reported within 90 days of purchase. Refunds may also be considered in certain cases involving technical issues or suspected fraud.

Option 1: Check eligibility for refund

You can review whether your specific purchase qualifies by following the official guidance: Can I get a refund from Skype? | Microsoft Support

    Option 2: Contact Microsoft Support

If you would like personalized assistance, you can reach Microsoft Support through the Contact Us page:

Go to the Microsoft Contact Us page > Select Show expanded list of products > Choose Skype.

    User's image

Select Home Support to ensure you are routed correctly.

    User's image

Enter Request a refund in the search field.

Scroll down and select Contact Support.

    User's image

Follow the prompts to connect with an agent.

This will allow a support agent to review your account and provide a definitive answer based on your purchase details.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have any questions or need further support, please don’t hesitate to reach out at any time.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
