Adjusting alert preferences for messages, mentions, and activity within Microsoft Teams
Hi @T Mitchell,
Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.
I completely understand how frustrating this experience can be, especially when you’re switching between desk and mobile working.
At the moment, Microsoft Teams does not support selective routing of calls to different devices based on the call source (for example, sending call group calls only to your laptop while allowing personal calls to ring on both your phone and laptop).
In Teams, incoming calls whether they are:
- Direct (personal) calls
- Call group / call queue calls
will typically ring on all signed‑in devices at the same time. There isn’t a built‑in setting to distinguish between these call types and route them separately to specific devices.
I also want to say that your suggestion makes a lot of sense. Being able to route different types of calls (such as call group vs personal calls) to specific devices would significantly improve call management and help avoid situations where calls are ringing simultaneously across multiple devices, creating confusion or disruption. This would be a very useful enhancement for many users in dynamic work environments.
The best way to request this capability is to submit feedback directly to Microsoft so the product team can review and evaluate the suggestion. This is the most effective path forward, as the Microsoft Teams product team actively monitors customer feedback, and many features and product improvements are driven by customer suggestions.
You can submit feedback here: Visit: Microsoft Teams · Community Feedback Portal
- Select Send feedback
- Clearly describe your request, for example:
“Allow routing of different call types (e.g., call groups vs personal calls) to specific devices in Microsoft Teams.”
Customer feedback is actively reviewed, and many product improvements come directly from these requests.
If you submit feedback, feel free to share the link here. I’d be happy to support it with an upvote, and it may help others with the same requirement add their support as well.
As forum moderators, we don’t have the ability to change or override Microsoft Teams product limitations, but we’re always happy to clarify current behavior and guide you to the appropriate feedback channels.
Thank you for your time and understanding. While this may not be the outcome you were hoping for, I hope the information above clearly explains what is and isn’t currently possible with Microsoft Teams calling and device behavior.
