Hello,

I am unable to activate Azure for Students using my college account (domain: ggnindia.dronacharya.info).

I can successfully:

Sign in to Azure

  • Complete authenticator verification

Complete academic verification

However, Azure for Students activation fails with:

"You do not have access. Sorry but our systems are detecting a problem with your account and are unable to validate your access."

Session ID: c33d340b-bd80-4d8d-aebc-0e0f0d771810

My Azure Portal shows 0 subscriptions and no Azure for Students subscription is created.

Please help investigate this issue.

Thank you.

The error message indicates that the Azure account or tenant has a validation or eligibility issue during signup, so Azure for Students cannot be activated even though sign-in and academic verification succeed.

Follow these steps to troubleshoot and escalate:

    1. Verify account and profile details
      • Sign in to the Microsoft account center: https://account.microsoft.com/.
      • Go to Your info and ensure the profile (name, address, phone) is complete and valid.
      • If the Azure signup flow previously showed messages like “We cannot proceed with sign-up due to an issue with your account” or “You are not eligible for an Azure subscription,” double-check that:
        • Contact email, street address, and phone number are correct.
        • Credit card or other required verification information (if prompted) is correct.
        • There is no other Microsoft account with exactly the same profile information.
    2. Check for account type or directory issues
      • The message “Your current account type is not supported” can appear if:
        • The account is in an unmanaged Microsoft Entra directory that is not under institutional admin control, or
        • The account was created via a special program (for example, Microsoft 365 Developer Program) that cannot be used to purchase/activate other services.
      • If this applies, try:
        • Using another Microsoft account that is not tied to an unmanaged directory, or
        • Having the institution’s IT/admin take over the unmanaged directory as described in “Take over an unmanaged directory as administrator in Microsoft Entra ID,” then retry activation.
    3. Confirm Azure eligibility and prior subscriptions
      • If any Azure subscription (including free trial) was previously created on this Microsoft account, some benefits (like free trial) cannot be reactivated. For Azure for Students, ensure that no conflicting subscription or blocked state exists on the same account.
    4. Retry activation in a clean browser session
      • Use a different browser or an InPrivate/Incognito window to avoid cached sessions or cookies interfering with the Azure for Students activation.
    5. If activation still fails, contact support
      • Because the message explicitly says “our systems are detecting a problem with your account,” the next step is to contact Microsoft support so they can check the account and tenant state server-side.
      • Use the Azure billing/subscription support path described in the troubleshooting article (for example, by opening a support request from the Azure portal if any subscription becomes available, or by using the general Azure support channels listed under “Contact us for help”).
      • Provide the error text and Session ID (c33d340b-bd80-4d8d-aebc-0e0f0d771810) so support can trace the failed activation.

If the institution is using Azure Dev Tools for Teaching or Azure for Education, the program administrator can also verify that the domain is correctly enrolled and that the subscription is active and renewed; if needed, they can reach out via the Azure for Education subscription support page.
