Following the Office update on May 26, 2026, I cannot open my AutoCAD-Electrical (2026 or 2027) without it hanging up when opening. The other versions of AutoCAD are still working normally. Please advise what setting in MSOffice that I need to restore to correct the problems created by the update.

Hi!

When you say "freezes," do you mean the application becomes slow to work, or does it freeze and close on its own (or force you to force it to close)?

There are no reports of an Office update causing this problem. How do you know that Office updated? Did any pop-up or notification appear?

Do you have a Microsoft 365 ("Office 365") subscription? Or Office 2024 Home?

Check if Windows or any drivers have also been updated.

  • Open Windows Settings > Windows Update > Update History > Expand all tabs (especially Quality, Feature, and Driver Upgrades).

Try repairing AutoCAD-Electrical

  • Open Windows Settings > Apps > Installed Apps > Find AutoCAD-Electrical > Click on the ●●● > Modify > choose the Repair option.

There is no information in the provided context about AutoCAD Electrical or any specific Office setting that affects it. The context only covers general Office issues such as apps not starting, “stopped working” errors, driver problems, file association issues, and subscription/activation problems.

Because of that, only generic Office-side troubleshooting steps can be stated:

    1. Make sure Office is fully updated
      • Open any Office app (for example Word).
      • Go to File > Account.
      • Under Product Information, choose Update Options > Update Now (enable updates first if needed).
      • Let updates complete and then restart Windows.
    2. Check for problematic Office add-ins
      • Start the relevant Office app in Safe Mode (for example, winword /safe from Run).
      • If it opens in Safe Mode, go to File > Options > Add-Ins and disable add-ins one by one using the Manage list and Go.
      • This is only applicable if AutoCAD Electrical is somehow integrating with Office via add-ins and those add-ins are causing issues.
    3. Repair Office
      • Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
      • Select the Office product and choose Change.
      • Run a Quick Repair first; if the issue persists, run an Online Repair.
    4. Update Windows and device drivers
      • Use Windows Update to install all available updates.
      • Pay particular attention to graphics and other device drivers, as outdated or incompatible drivers are known to cause Office-related hangs and display issues.

If AutoCAD Electrical still freezes after these Office and Windows steps, the problem is likely on the AutoCAD side (for example, a dependency on a specific Office component, a plug-in, or a shared library) and should be investigated using Autodesk’s guidance, as the provided context does not include any AutoCAD-specific remediation.
