A game that worked on a previous Windows version but not on Windows 10 is usually hitting a compatibility issue. Use these steps in order:
- Check for an updated version of the game
- If the game was installed from Microsoft Store, open Microsoft Store → Library → Get updates and install any available updates. For details, see Get updates for apps and games in Microsoft Store.
- If it was installed from outside Microsoft Store, go to the publisher’s website and look for a Windows 10–compatible or updated version.
- Run the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter
- Select Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
- Find Program Compatibility Troubleshooter and select Run.
- Choose the game’s executable and follow the on‑screen instructions.
- If the game launches but behaves badly (flickering, freezing, glitches)
- After running the troubleshooter, update device drivers (especially graphics) via Windows Update as described in how to update drivers.
- If the game is from Microsoft Store and still will not work
- Sign in with the correct Microsoft account, then follow the Store app repair steps in Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store:
- Close and reopen the game.
- Make sure Windows 10 is fully updated.
- Update Microsoft Store itself.
- If needed, repair or reset the game via Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Sign in with the correct Microsoft account, then follow the Store app repair steps in Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store:
If none of these steps help and the publisher does not offer a Windows 10–compatible build, the game may not be supported on Windows 10.
