How to Fix the Issue of Student Verification for Azure for Student

Hello.

I tried to verify my student status when signing up to Azure for Student with this account. But it said "This email account has already been used for verification this year. If you think this is an error, please contact support." I tried to contact the support team via Azure Portal, but it raised an error that no user had logged in. So, I have no access to the support team.

I might verify my student status before. Either way, I'd like to activate Azure on this account I'm using now.

I'd really appreciate it if you support team could help solve this problem.

Thank you for your time,

Shun

Hello Shun,

Greetings! Thanks for raising this question in Q&A forum.

No need to worry this is a very common situation and it can be sorted out! The message you're seeing "This email account has already been used for verification this year" appears because Azure for Students allows each school email address to be used for student verification only once every 12 months. So it's likely your email was used for a previous verification attempt at some point during the past year, even if you don't remember doing it.

Since you also can't access Azure Portal support (because you're not logged in with an active subscription), here's exactly how to get this resolved step by step:

1. Use the dedicated Azure for Students support form

This is the right path for you since you can't raise a ticket through the portal. Go directly to: 👉 https://aka.ms/azureforstudentssupport

This form does not require an active Azure subscription to submit anyone can use it.

2. Fill in the form with the following details

When submitting the form, make sure to include:

  • Your full name
  • The school email address you used for verification (the one that's blocked)
  • A brief description of the issue mention that you received the error "This email account has already been used for verification this year" and that you believe this may be an error or a previous accidental attempt
  • Your Microsoft account (personal email) that you want linked to the Azure for Students subscription

3. Check if your university email is already linked to a Microsoft account

Sometimes the verification was done on a different Microsoft account without realising it. Sign in at https://portal.azure.com using your school email address directly and check if there's already an Azure for Students subscription attached to it.

4. Wait for Microsoft's support team to respond

Once you submit the form, Microsoft's Azure for Students support team will review your case. They can manually reset or review the verification status for your school email. Response times are usually within 1–3 business days.

5. If you have a valid student ID, keep it ready

In some cases, the support team may ask you to verify your student status manually by sharing a copy of your student ID or enrollment letter. Having this ready will speed things up.

You're on the right track this just needs a quick review from Microsoft's side and it will be sorted out for you!

If this answer helps you kindly accept the answer which will help others who have similar questions.

Best Regards,

Jerald Felix.

Hello Shun, it looks like you’re running into the “one-email-verification-per-year” limit for Azure for Students. By design, Azure for Students Starter only lets you verify a school email once every 12 months. Here’s how to move forward:

    1. Check if you already have an active Azure for Students Starter subscription • Sign in to the Azure portal (portal.azure.com) using the same account you verified. • Go to “Subscriptions” and look for your Azure for Students Starter subscription. If it’s there and the status is “Active,” you can start creating resources right away—no need to reverify.
    2. If your subscription has expired or you’ve used all your credits • You’ll need to wait until your one-year anniversary to renew the free Azure for Students Starter offer. At that point, you can re-verify your email. • If you need access today, consider upgrading to a Pay-As-You-Go subscription: in the Subscriptions blade, select your student subscription and click Upgrade.
    3. Try an alternate verification method (GitHub Student Developer Pack) • If your institution’s email isn’t renewing, you can verify via GitHub:
      1. Sign in at https://signup.azure.com/studentverification?offerType=1 with Sign in with GitHub.
      2. Use your GitHub user ID (not your email) and make sure that account is part of the GitHub Student Developer Pack (https://education.github.com/pack).
      3. Follow the prompts to retrieve and enter the GitHub-issued verification code.
    4. Troubleshooting tips for the verification page • Clear your browser cache or use an InPrivate/Incognito window. • Try a different browser or network. • If you see “Cannot verify your student status,” follow the steps under Troubleshoot issues with Azure for Students offers (clear data → InPrivate → school-email vs GitHub flow).
    5. Contacting support from the portal • Make sure you’re actually signed in to the subscription you’re trying to fix. • Only a logged-in user can create a support request—if “no user had logged in” appears, double-check your account and try an InPrivate window. • If you still can’t open a support ticket in the portal, reach out to [Azure for Education support](https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/institutions/contact

) here: With those details, we can narrow down the next best step. Good luck!

I think Azure lets a school email do the student check once every 12 months, and when it was already used, the next step is using the Azure for Students support form with that same mail.

    Thank you for your response.

I tried the 3 option and it worked well! According the instruction, I already have an account with my school email (it has totally slipped my mind...). The display allows me to choose whether choosing a school account or connecting the student credential provided by the GitHub account to my desired Microsoft account (with the email that is also listed in the GitHub account setting). It said I already have an account with my school email although I couldn't locate it. Probably it the cause that made me not reach Azure for Students with the account that I'm using now.

So, I chose the latter option, and it worked perfectly! Regarding the school account, I'll try to fix the problem myself later.

Thank you so much for your help!
