Hello @Curtis Gibson
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Q&A regarding your Azure tenant issue. I understand this can be frustrating and hope to provide some guidance to help you out.
Yes — this error means the tenant was blocked for inactivity, not that your Microsoft account was deleted.
According to Microsoft official docs, a tenant that shows AADSTS5000225 can be reactivated only within 20 days of entering the inactive state. If it stays inactive longer than 20 days, it is deleted and cannot be recovered:
If you are still within that 20-day window, the official next step is to contact Microsoft support and ask for tenant reactivation. The Microsoft Learn article points to the global support phone numbers page as the contact path:
For the credit card issue, Microsoft’s billing docs say a payment method can only be deleted when it is not attached to an active subscription or billing profile. In some cases, such as an Entra Free subscription, you cannot remove the last payment method until the tenant is deleted:
So the practical options are:
- If the tenant was blocked less than 20 days ago: contact Microsoft support right away and request reactivation.
- If it has been more than 20 days: the tenant is no longer recoverable, and you will need to create a new Azure tenant/subscription if you want to use Azure again.
If you can later regain access, you can then go to Cost Management + Billing and remove or replace the payment method from the billing scope.

Curtis I hope this was helpful, and if you did find it to be so, please mark this as an "accepted" answer. This helps others in the community find relevant help.
And follow me here on Microsoft Q&A. I hope you have a wonderful day!
