Unable to access DFSPrivate shortcut created by DFSR replication

Hi everyone,

I've set up DFS Replication (DFSR) on a Windows Server environment and noticed that a hidden shortcut called DFSPrivate  inside my replicated folder, But I Am unable to access this shortcut

My environment:

Windows Server 2019 (replication members)

DFSR replication group configured between two servers

Replicated folder is a shared folder on a data volume

I can access all other files/subfolders in the replicated folder fine

Is there anything I can do to access this private folder, or is it completely restricted by design? Any guidance would be appreciated

    It’s completely by design, and you won’t be able to access it directly. DFS Replication uses that folder internally to manage staging, conflict resolution, and database info. Think of it as the “engine room” of DFSR it’s not meant for user or admin interaction, and trying to poke around in there can actually break replication.

    All your actual replicated data lives outside of that hidden folder, so as long as you can access your normal files and subfolders, you’re good.
