We are using the new Microsoft Teams desktop client and noticed that the previous “Turn off animations” accessibility setting is no longer available.

Previously, the setting was accessible under: Settings → General → Turn off animations

In the current Teams version, the option no longer appears under:

  • General
  • Accessibility
  • Appearance

We also tested the search function within Teams Settings using keywords such as:

  • animation
  • animations
  • reduce motion

No matching setting was found.

Could you please confirm:

  1. Whether the Teams-level animation toggle has been officially removed
  2. Whether Teams now fully relies on Windows OS visual effect settings instead
  3. If there is any alternative Teams-specific method or policy available to disable animations

Environment:

  • New Microsoft Teams desktop client
  • Windows 11
  • Issue reproduced consistently across the current client build

Hi @Dcruz, Alintan,

Thank you for reaching out and providing such clear inquiries regarding the animation settings in the new Microsoft Teams client.

Based on your inquiries, this is a platform-wide behavior change rather than a tenant-specific issue. The standalone, in-app Teams animation toggle has been retired, and the client now dynamically inherits visual preferences directly from the host operating system (Windows or macOS).

To address your specific questions directly:

  • Whether the Teams-level animation toggle has been officially removed:   Yes. The dedicated, in-app animation toggle has been officially deprecated and removed from the new Teams client architecture.
  • Whether Teams now fully relies on Windows OS visual effect settings instead:   Yes. Teams now completely defers to the host operating system. If animations are disabled at the OS level, the Teams client will automatically honor that preference.
  • If there is any alternative Teams-specific method or policy available to disable animations:   No. There are currently no documented alternative application-specific settings, admin Group Policies, or Teams client-level policies available to selectively manage animations independently of the OS.

To reduce or disable animations within the Teams client, users need to adjust their system-wide preferences using the following path: Start > Settings > Accessibility > Visual effects > Animation effects

Turning off Animation effects within Windows is the supported method to modify this behavior.

I hope this information provides clarity on the current product design. Please let me know if you require any further assistance.
