Is it possibe to use an exam fee for DP-100 after retirement in the new certification AI-300?

Hello,

I have an exam fee for Microsoft DP-100 certification "Designing and Implementing a Data Science Solution on Azure" but I am not going to be able to take the exam before the certification expires in June 1st. Is it possible avoid losing the exam fee and retake it to be used in the new certification that replaces the old one (AI-300 certification "Operationalizing Machine Learning and Generative AI Solutions)?

If so, how can I redeem the voucher or fee?

Thanks in advance

Hello Salvador Calabria

Greetings! Thanks for raising this question in Q&A forum.

I completely understand your concern it's frustrating to be in this situation with the DP-100 retirement just days away. Let me give you the most accurate picture of your options and the best path forward.

The direct answer to your question

Unfortunately, Microsoft exam vouchers are exam-specific and are not transferable to a different exam. Voucher codes may not be redeemed for cash, credit, or refunds, and each voucher is exam-specific and may not be used for any other offering. So there is no official documented path to directly transfer your DP-100 exam fee to AI-300.

However, you have a few practical options depending on how your exam fee was paid and your specific situation:

Step 1: Check if your voucher is a general Microsoft exam voucher or exam-specific Some vouchers are general Microsoft certification vouchers valid for any qualifying exam, while others are tied to a specific exam code. If yours is a general Pearson VUE voucher (not specifically locked to DP-100), you may be able to use it for AI-300 or another exam once AI-300 becomes generally available. Check the voucher terms or log in to your Pearson VUE account to see which exams the voucher covers.

Step 2: Request a refund or credit from Pearson VUE directly Since the exam is being retired a situation outside your control it is worth contacting Pearson VUE customer support directly to explain your situation and request either a refund or a credit transfer to another exam. While this is not guaranteed, retirement-related cases are sometimes treated with more flexibility than standard cancellations. Contact Pearson VUE at: https://home.pearsonvue.com/microsoft/contact

Step 3: Contact Microsoft Certification Support You can also raise this directly with Microsoft Certification Support at: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credentials/support/help. Explain that the exam is retiring before you could schedule it and ask whether an exception or credit transfer to AI-300 is possible. For cancellation and refund eligibility, the standard exam reschedule and cancellation policy applies cancellations or reschedules must be done at least 24 hours before the appointment to avoid forfeiting the fee. Since DP-100 retires June 1st and you haven't booked yet, you are not in a cancellation situation this puts you in a better position to argue for a transfer or refund.

Step 4: Understand what AI-300 covers so you're ready The new AI-300: MLOps Engineer Associate certification replaces DP-100, with more focus on machine learning and generative AI DP-100 was structured around traditional data science while AI-300 focuses on operationalizing models in Microsoft Foundry. Your preparation for DP-100 will not be wasted much of the Azure ML knowledge carries over and will help you with AI-300.

Step 5: Watch for AI-300 availability and book promptly AI-300 is the replacement certification. Monitor the Microsoft Learn certifications page at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credentials/certifications for the official launch date of AI-300, and book it as soon as it becomes available. If you do get a refund or credit from Steps 2 or 3, you can apply it toward AI-300.

Important note on timing Given that DP-100 retires on June 1, 2026 which is just days away please act on Steps 2 and 3 as soon as possible. The sooner you contact Pearson VUE and Microsoft Certification Support, the better your chances of a favourable outcome before the retirement date passes.

Jerald Felix.

If you paid yourself then you can cancel and get a refund https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/credentials/support/reschedule-and-cancellation-policy

If you used a voucher then it will not be able to be transferred

DP-100 is scheduled to retire on June 1, 2026, and after that date it is no longer possible to take the exam or earn the associated certification. The guidance is to take any exam that is going to retire before its retirement date; there is no indication that exam fees or vouchers for a retiring exam can be transferred to a different, replacement exam such as AI-300.

To avoid losing the fee or voucher, the only supported option in the provided information is to schedule and take DP-100 before its retirement date. After retirement, the exam cannot be taken and the associated credential cannot be earned.

For any exam-scheduling, reschedule, or cancellation actions (including questions about fees), use the certification dashboard or contact Pearson VUE Support as described in the exam policies.
