Trying to upgrade to a better CoPilot

For home use, Copilot availability and “better” options are tied to the Microsoft 365 subscription type, not to Windows itself.

1. Check the current subscription
   • Sign in to the Microsoft account services page and confirm which Microsoft 365 plan is active (for example: Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium).
2. Choose a plan that includes more Copilot features
   • Copilot in Microsoft 365 is included in Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, and Premium plans.
   • To move to a plan with more features (for example, from Basic or Personal to Family or Premium), purchase the new subscription using the same Microsoft account as the current one. The remaining days on the old subscription are automatically converted and added to the new one, adjusted by plan type.
3. Switch to a subscription with more features
   • Buy the desired Microsoft 365 subscription (such as Microsoft 365 Premium) with the same Microsoft account as the existing subscription.
   • After purchase, start using the new plan’s benefits immediately; Copilot features included in that plan will be available in supported apps.
4. If Copilot is missing after upgrade
   • Make sure the account signed into Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneDrive is the same account that owns the upgraded subscription.
   • In any Microsoft 365 app, go to File > Account and use Update License, then restart the apps.

If a different Copilot tier (for example, Microsoft Copilot Pro or Microsoft 365 Copilot add-on) is needed beyond what home plans provide, review the available Copilot pricing and plans and purchase the appropriate add-on or plan using the same Microsoft account.
