I put in a refund request (for a VM I accidently left running while working on an exercise) over two weeks ago. I have not received any update and it is impossible to call and talk to anyone. How long will it take to get an refund request approval?

Refund processing times for Azure usage charges (like a VM left running) are not defined in the documentation, and they depend on review by Microsoft support or, for Marketplace items, by the publishing partner.

For a usage/billing dispute that has had no update for over two weeks, the next step is to contact support directly so an engineer can review the existing request and provide a status or decision:

    1. Go to Contact Microsoft Support and create a billing/support request for Azure, describing that a refund request was submitted over two weeks ago with no response. Include subscription ID, dates, and the original request ID if available.
    2. After submitting, track the ticket in the Azure portal under Help + support → Recent support tickets so progress and responses can be monitored.

If the charge is related to a Marketplace SaaS/VM offer rather than native Azure usage, note that:

    • For Marketplace SaaS and Professional Service offers, a full refund is only guaranteed if canceled within 72 hours of purchase. After 72 hours, the publishing partner must approve the refund and submit a ticket through Marketplace, which can add extra time to processing.
    • For Virtual Machine software reservations, a full refund is only possible if canceled within 72 hours of purchase, subject to the limits in the reservations refund policy. Beyond that, cancellations are not allowed, and no refund is provided for usage/consumption charges.

Because timing and eligibility depend on the specific offer and the partner/support review, only the active support ticket owner can confirm when the refund will be approved or denied. If no response is visible in the portal, opening or updating a billing support request is required to move it forward.
