Outlook sent emails are disappearing after moving them from the Sent folder to a created folder.

Using Windows 11, MS 365. Outlook. Comcast email address.

Emails that I move from my Outlook Sent folder, to a folder I created for storage, now disappear. This is a recent development. It has worked fine for the past numerous years. Now they just seem to disappear. I also have a large number, in brackets (not parenthesis), next to the destination folder.

Any idea what's going on? How to fix it?

I have been moving "Sent" emails to a folder entitled "A Troop" for years, with no issues. Recently (probably since around the middle of May) none of the these sent emails appeared when I opened the A Troop folder. Various suggestions to clear all "filters" and "resetting" were attempted, with no positive effect.

I highlighted one of the "sent" emails (outside of the "A Troop" folder), navigated to the "Junk" option and selected "Never Block Sender". All of the emails sent by me in the A Troop folder reappeared.

I hope this helps others.

    Hi Glen Veno,

    Welcome to Microsoft Q&A forum.

With Classic Outlook + Comcast (IMAP), this usually means the messages are still in the folder but hidden by a folder View/Filter, not actually deleted. Microsoft notes that when items “disappear” from a folder, it’s commonly because a filter was applied to that folder’s view.

Also, the large number in square brackets (e.g., [6709]) typically indicates Outlook is showing the total item count for that folder (read + unread), so Outlook still believes the folder contains mail.

Please note that this is a user-to-user support forum. Moderators, contributors including external Microsoft employees cannot directly intervene in Microsoft product features or access back-end systems. Our role is limited to providing technical guidance on reported issues, requests, or ideas only.

    Please try these steps :

    1 Reset the folder view

    • Select the destination folder (e.g., “A Troop”) > View tab > Reset View

2 Clear any filters on that folder

    • View > View Settings > Filter… > clear/remove any criteria (dates, unread-only, etc.).

3 Re-sync / subscribe the IMAP folder (if the folder is out of sync)

    • Right‑click the top of the Comcast mailbox in the folder list > IMAP Folders… > Query > select the folder > Subscribe > OK, then right‑click the mailbox again > Update Folder List.

4 If it still looks wrong, reset all views

    • Close Outlook > Win + R > run: outlook.exe /cleanviews (this resets Outlook views back to defaults)

As a quick sanity check, it also helps to confirm whether the messages landed in Trash/Deleted Items in Comcast webmail (IMAP moves can behave like copy+delete depending on server behavior).

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further updates, thanks.
