Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
Verification codes can only be sent to the security info already on the Microsoft account (email addresses or phone numbers added as sign‑in verification methods). If the only security method on the account is the Gmail address that currently cannot be accessed, the sign‑in will keep sending codes there and will not let you bypass it.
To regain access, use only the supported paths below; support cannot override or send codes elsewhere:
- Check whether the code is actually arriving
- Make sure the Gmail address being shown is exactly correct (first characters match what Outlook shows).
- Sign in directly to Gmail in a browser and check Inbox and Junk/Spam for messages from
@accountprotection.microsoft.com. - Verification codes are only sent to the primary alias or addresses added as security info. If Gmail was never added as security info, codes will not arrive there.
- Avoid repeated requests and possible blocks
- Do not keep clicking “send code” repeatedly. Excessive or repetitive requests can cause Microsoft to temporarily block sending verification codes to that address or number.
- If there is heavy suspicious traffic from the current region or network, codes may be delayed or temporarily blocked and will start working again only after some time.
- If the account is blocked or codes are not coming
- The account may be temporarily blocked due to unusual activity or too many verification attempts. In that case, codes may not be delivered until the block clears.
- If possible, try again later (at least 24 hours, up to several days) without making many repeated attempts.
- If there is another verification method on the account
- When prompted for a code, look for an option such as I don’t have a code or I don’t have any of these.
- If available, choose another method already on the account (different email or phone) and complete verification.
- If none of the listed methods can be accessed, select I don’t have any of these and follow the prompts to replace security info. This process may require waiting before full access is restored.
- If the Microsoft account password itself no longer works
- Use the official recovery flow: go to Recover your account and follow the steps to reset the password using whatever security info is still accessible.
- If still locked out or codes never arrive
- Use the Microsoft account sign‑in helper tool for guided troubleshooting of sign‑in and verification issues.
- If that does not resolve the issue, go to the Microsoft support entry point, describe the problem, and use the Contact Support option. Support agents cannot send codes or change security info but can confirm what options are available.
If the Gmail mailboxes themselves are not accessible (for example, cannot sign in to Gmail at all), recovery must be done through Google first; Microsoft cannot change or bypass Gmail access.
