The error AADSTS5000225: This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity means the Microsoft Entra tenant linked to the new Azure free account has been automatically blocked due to inactivity as part of the tenant lifecycle policies.

Use these steps that match the documented and community resolutions:

    1. Try accessing the subscription sign-up/upgrade flow directly
      • Open a private/incognito browser session (to avoid cached sign-in info and cookies).
      • Go to the Azure sign-up endpoint https://signup.azure.com (from context) and sign in with the same email address that shows the error on portal.azure.com.
      • If the account is recognized as an existing free account, follow the prompts to continue/upgrade to a pay-as-you-go subscription (this can keep the existing free benefits while unblocking the tenant, as described in the referenced Q&A case).
    2. If the tenant is blocked due to inactivity and within the reactivation window
      • A tenant that has just entered the inactive/blocked state can be reactivated by an administrator within 20 days.
      • The tenant administrator must contact Microsoft using the global support phone numbers referenced under “Tenant inaccessible due to inactivity” in the Q&A content.
      • Do not open multiple support requests for the same issue; wait for the response on the first case.
    3. Try signing in directly to a specific tenant context
      • If the tenant ID or tenant name is known, attempt:
        • https://portal.azure.com/<TenantId> or
        • https://portal.azure.com/<yourTenantName>.onmicrosoft.com
      • This sometimes allows access to the tenant context to open support or manage tenants if it is not fully deleted yet.
    4. If the tenant is blocked for more than 20 days
      • Per the documented lifecycle behavior, if the tenant has been blocked for more than 20 days, it is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.
      • In that case, a new tenant and/or a new Microsoft account must be created to use Azure.
    5. As a workaround to continue using Azure services
      • If the current tenant cannot be reactivated, create a new tenant via https://entra.microsoft.com (Entra ID → Overview → Manage tenants → Create new tenant) and then access it via https://portal.azure.com/<newTenantName>.onmicrosoft.com to start with a fresh environment.

If none of the above resolves the issue and the tenant is still within the 20‑day block window, the next step is to contact Microsoft support with the tenant details and error code for reactivation.
