Access to certifications and Learn data is tied to the Microsoft Learn login accounts on the profile. If access to the former work email (work or school account) is lost and that was the only login on the Learn profile, the data on that profile cannot be recovered or moved.

To understand and secure access going forward:

    1. If there is still any way to regain access to the old work account, contact the former employer or school IT administrator and ask them to restore or temporarily re-enable the work account. Then:
      • Sign in to Microsoft Learn with that work account.
      • Go to Learn profile settings and use Add login account to add a personal Microsoft account (MSA) so that future access is not dependent on the work account.
    2. If the work account cannot be recovered and no personal account was ever added to that Learn profile, Microsoft cannot:
      • Recover that work or school account.
      • Transfer or restore the contents of the Learn profile tied only to that account.
    3. For the current personal account, make sure it is added to any active Learn profile so that certifications and learning data remain accessible regardless of employment status. See the guidance on adding a personal account and managing login accounts in Learn profile settings.

No personal details should be shared publicly. For account recovery of a work or school account, work only with the organization’s IT administrator.
