A cloud-based identity and access management service for securing user authentication and resource access
The error AADSTS5000225: This tenant has been blocked due to inactivity means the Microsoft Entra tenant associated with the account has been marked inactive and sign-ins are blocked.
Key points from the tenant lifecycle behavior:
- When a tenant is blocked due to inactivity, all sign-ins to that tenant (including Azure portal and Azure DevOps) are blocked.
- Administrators can request reactivation only within 20 days of the tenant entering the inactive state.
- If the tenant remains inactive for more than 20 days after being blocked, it is deleted and cannot be recovered.
To get the tenant unblocked (only possible within the 20‑day window):
- Ensure the sign-in is targeting the correct tenant (for example, by using a URL that includes the tenant name or ID such as
https://portal.azure.com/<TenantId>orhttps://portal.azure.com/<yourTenantName>.onmicrosoft.com). This helps confirm the correct tenant is being accessed. - Have a tenant administrator contact Microsoft support and request tenant reactivation. Use the global support phone numbers listed in the documentation. Only Microsoft support can remove the inactivity block.
- Do not submit multiple support requests for the same issue; wait for the decision on the existing case.
If more than 20 days have passed since the tenant was blocked, the tenant is deleted and cannot be restored. In that case, a new tenant must be created (for example, via the Microsoft Entra admin center or Azure sign-up flow) and then used to access Azure.
