Intune config Auto Lock After 5 Minutes Idle

To configure an auto-lock after 5 minutes of idle time with Intune, use the device restriction/compliance settings for each platform and set the inactivity/lock values to 5 minutes (or the closest supported value):

For Windows (compliance policy)

• Go to Devices > By platform > Windows > Manage devices > Compliance.
• Edit the compliance policy (System Security section).
• Set Maximum minutes of inactivity before password is required so that it maps to 5 minutes:
  • Office value 5–14 minutes maps to Intune value: 5 minutes.

For iOS/iPadOS (device restrictions)

• Use the Password settings in the Apple device restriction profile:
  • Maximum minutes of inactivity until screen locks: set to 5 so the screen locks after 5 minutes of inactivity.
  • Maximum minutes after screen lock before password is required: set as needed (for example, 0–5 minutes) knowing both settings apply in sequence.
• Platform behavior:
  • iOS options include 5 minutes; screen locks after 5 minutes of inactivity.
  • iPadOS options include 5 minutes; screen locks after 5 minutes of inactivity.
  • If a non-supported value is entered, Apple uses the closest lower value (for example, entering 4 minutes results in 2 minutes on iPadOS, 5 minutes on iOS when 10 is entered, etc.).

For macOS (device restrictions)

• In the macOS device restriction profile under Password:
  • Set Maximum minutes of inactivity until screen locks to 5.
  • Optionally set Maximum minutes after screen lock before password is required to control how long after lock a password is needed.

Behavior note for Apple platforms

• When both are configured, Maximum minutes of inactivity until screen locks and Maximum minutes after screen lock before password is required are applied in sequence. For example, if both are set to 5 minutes:
  • Screen turns off/locks after 5 minutes of inactivity.
  • Device requires password 5 minutes after the screen locks (or immediately if the user manually turns off the screen and the second value is 0).

• Windows compliance: Office 5–14 minutes → Intune 5 minutes.
