The email address entered is not currently recognized as a Microsoft account. When the Microsoft account sign-in page shows messages like “We couldn't find an account with that username” or “That Microsoft account doesn't exist,” it means either:
- The address was never actually created as a Microsoft account, or
- The Microsoft account using that email address was closed or deleted (for example, after long inactivity or if it was intentionally closed).
To confirm the status of each Gmail address:
- Go to https://account.microsoft.com and enter each Gmail address.
- If a password prompt appears, that email is an active Microsoft account.
- If the message says the account does not exist, check spelling and domain and consider that the account may have been closed. See How to check if your email address is a Microsoft account.
Regarding certifications appearing under a different account: if different Microsoft accounts were used at different times (for example, one during registration and another during exam scheduling or profile setup), certifications can end up associated with the account that was active or provided during the certification process. The behavior of moving or associating certifications between accounts is not controlled from the sign-in page and typically requires working with certification/credentials support, not standard account sign-in tools.
Changing the login username to another Gmail address is only possible if:
- That Gmail address is not already in use as a Microsoft account, and
- It is added as an alias/sign-in address on the target Microsoft account.
In general, what can be changed on a Microsoft account includes which email addresses can be used to sign in. See What can I change on my Microsoft account? and Which email addresses you can use to sign in to your Microsoft account (linked from that article). If the older Gmail-based Microsoft account has been closed or no longer exists, that Gmail address may be reusable as a sign-in alias on the active account once it is fully free.
To summarize the steps:
- Use the guidance in How to check if your email address is a Microsoft account to verify which Gmail address is an active Microsoft account.
- If only the “new” Gmail address is active, sign in to that account and manage sign-in email addresses as described in What can I change on my Microsoft account?.
- If the “old” Gmail-based Microsoft account no longer exists, that explains why sign-in fails and why content or certifications are not visible under it.
For certification profile merges or corrections specifically, use the dedicated credentials support channel referenced in similar cases.
