Unable to register using personal gmail id

Parental consent is being requested because the birthdate on the Microsoft account created with the Gmail address indicates an underage user. That account is therefore being treated as a child account and cannot be used normally (including for certification registration) until consent is handled or the age/birthdate issue is corrected.

Because consent and age data are tied to the specific Microsoft account that originally granted consent (or needs to grant it), and because accounts cannot be merged, the only supported paths are:

1. Manage or remove parental consent (if the Gmail account is truly a child account)
   • Only the adult account that originally granted consent can manage or remove it.
   • That adult must sign in and manage consent here: Manage permissions link in the parental consent article.
   • If the expected child account does not appear, consent was granted by a different adult account or a different Microsoft account. In that case, the adult or guardian must recover that adult account first using the account recovery flow.
2. Correct an incorrect birthdate (if the Gmail account owner is actually above statutory age)
   • If the account is above statutory age but is still treated as underage, use the interactive tool linked under “Why am I required to provide consent even though I am above statutory age?” to be guided through correcting the birthdate and age status on the account.
3. Recover access if the adult/guardian account is lost
   • If the adult account that granted consent cannot be accessed, the adult or appropriate guardian must attempt to recover that account using the Microsoft account recovery process. If recovery fails, the child account may lose access.
4. About “merging” the org and personal accounts
   • Microsoft accounts cannot actually be merged. At most, an email address can be added as an alias to another Microsoft account, but purchases, data, and entitlements (including certifications) do not move between accounts.
   • If the Gmail address was added as an alias to an organizational or other Microsoft account, that does not transfer age/consent status or certification data between accounts.

To proceed with certification registration using the Gmail-based Microsoft account, ensure:

• The account is no longer treated as a child account (either by correcting age or by the original adult re‑granting/removing consent as appropriate), and
• The account can sign in normally at the Microsoft account portal after any necessary recovery.

If certification data is on a different Microsoft account (for example, the organizational account used for learning), that data cannot be merged into the Gmail account; instead, use the account that actually holds the certification profile when registering, or contact Certification Support from the credentials support page for profile recovery/association help.
