This loop usually happens because the legal name on the Microsoft Learn profile is missing, invalid, or does not meet the exam provider’s requirements. The legal name must be set correctly on the Learn profile before Pearson VUE scheduling can continue.
Use these steps to resolve it:
- Open the Microsoft Learn profile settings directly (do not start from Schedule exam):
- Go to the profile settings page and open Settings.
- Fix the Legal name field:
- Ensure first and last name are filled in and match the government ID exactly (no extra words, no duplication, no leading/trailing spaces).
- If the last name format is causing validation issues (for example, special characters), remove diacritics or special characters and use only standard letters. This workaround has been confirmed to allow exam check-in without issues.
- Save the profile.
- Return to the DP-700 exam page and select Schedule exam again. The legal-name confirmation step should now complete and transfer to Pearson VUE.
If the name still cannot be updated or the loop continues, contact Microsoft Credentials support so they can correct the legal name on the certification profile, especially if an exam or voucher is already associated with the account. Use the support entry point under Credentials support → Help → submit a support request.
If the issue is specifically that the last name must be removed or changed in a way the UI does not allow, support can also handle this scenario; community guidance indicates that when an exam is already booked, a link to contact Credentials support is shown on the profile page.
Once the legal name is corrected and saved, retry scheduling and then redeem the DP-700 voucher during Pearson VUE checkout on the payment screen using Add Voucher or Promo Code.
