My Azure account is locked but the same Microsoft account still works for M365

Hello,

My Azure account is locked. I'm using the same Microsoft account to log in to my Microsoft 365 subscription and that still works. Just my access to Azure is blocked.

The Microsoft account itself is still valid, but the Azure tenant linked to it is likely blocked or inactive. This is why Microsoft 365 continues to work while Azure sign‑in fails.

For Azure tenants blocked due to inactivity (error AADSTS5000225), the supported options are:

    1. Try accessing Azure with the tenant context explicitly
      • Use the tenant ID or tenant name in the portal URL, for example:
        https://portal.azure.com/<TenantId> or https://portal.azure.com/<yourTenantName>.onmicrosoft.com
      • If this works, go to Microsoft Entra ID → Overview → Manage tenants to review the tenant status.
    2. If the tenant is blocked due to inactivity
      • Administrators can request reactivation within 20 days of the tenant entering the inactive state. After 20 days, the tenant is deleted.
      • The tenant administrator must contact Microsoft using the global support phone numbers to request reactivation.
      • Do not submit multiple assistance requests for the same issue while one case is in progress.
    3. If direct portal access fails completely
      • Sign out of all Microsoft accounts and clear all browser site data, then try signing in again to Azure.
      • If still blocked and within the 20‑day window, contact Microsoft support as tenant admin to request tenant reactivation.

If the tenant has been inactive longer than the supported reactivation period, the Azure tenant and its resources are no longer recoverable, even though the Microsoft account and M365 subscription continue to function.
