Data Type Stocks not working in Excel 2024

In Excel 2024, the Stocks data type is a linked data type that is only available when certain requirements are met.

To enable and use Data > Stocks:

1. Check account and subscription
   • Sign in to Excel with a Microsoft 365 subscription account or a free Microsoft account.
   • Stocks and Geography data types are only available to Microsoft 365 accounts or those with a free Microsoft Account.
2. Check editing language
   • Open Office Language Preferences and ensure that one of these editing languages is added: English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, or Portuguese.
   • The Stocks data type is only available when at least one of these languages is configured as an editing language.
3. Use the Data tab to convert to Stocks
   • Type a ticker symbol, company name, or fund name into a cell.
   • Select the cell(s).
   • Go to the Data tab and click Stocks.
   • If Excel finds a match, the text is converted to the Stocks data type and shows a Stocks icon in the cell.
   • Use the Insert Data button that appears to add fields such as Price or Change as columns.
4. If Stocks still does not appear
   • Ensure Excel is updated to the latest version under File > Account.
   • If there are still issues accessing linked data types, open the workbook in Excel for the web and verify that the account used there has the required subscription.

If the workbook will be shared with earlier versions of Excel, note that linked data types (including Stocks) are not supported there. Before saving to an earlier file format, convert linked data type cells to text via Data Type > Convert to Text to avoid errors.
