Request for Recovery or Release of Orphaned Microsoft Entra / M365 Domain Ownership for xxxxxxxx

Hello Microsoft Support,

I am requesting assistance recovering or releasing ownership of the domain xxxxxxxxfrom an orphaned Microsoft Entra ID / Microsoft 365 tenant that I no longer have administrative access to.

I currently control the DNS for the domain and have successfully added the Microsoft verification TXT records, but Microsoft still reports the domain as “Managed” and attached to another tenant that I cannot access.

I can provide:

DNS verification proof
Screenshots of verification attempts and errors
Tenant IDs
Subscription IDs
Proof of domain ownership
Failed recovery attempts

I am requesting either:

Recovery assistance for the original tenant, or
Release of the domain from the orphaned tenant so it can be attached to the correct active tenant.

Thank you for posting on MS Learn Q&A.

Because Microsoft is showing newvalleylabs.com as Managed and already attached to another Microsoft Entra / Microsoft 365 tenant this normally cannot be fixed only by adding new DNS TXT records in the new tenant. A custom domain that is already verified in another Microsoft Entra organization cannot simply be added again to a different managed tenant.

You have 2 possible paths:

1/Try admin takeover only if the old tenant is unmanaged.

If the old tenant was created through self-service sign-up, such as Power BI or another Microsoft cloud service, you may be able to perform an admin takeover.

After becoming admin, you would remove the domain from that tenant and then add it to the correct tenant.

2/ If it is a managed or orphaned tenant, Microsoft Support must handle it

You need to open a Microsoft 365 business support case and request either:

Global Administrator recovery for the original tenant, or manual release/removal of newvalleylabs.com from the orphaned tenant.

When a domain is removed normally, Microsoft requires that it is not the default domain and that no users, groups, mailboxes, aliases, or admin sign-ins still depend on it. If the process cannot be completed normally, Microsoft says you may need support to manually remove the domain.

Based on your description, it seems that you are unable to verify your custom domain in your Entra ID tenant, even after correctly adding the TXT records in your domain provider side.

This issue often occurs when the domain has already been verified in another Entra directory, as explained in the following document: Common verification issues
