A family of Microsoft spreadsheet software with tools for analyzing, charting, and communicating data.
To have new weight entries appear on the line chart, ensure that the chart’s source data range includes all rows of the table where dates and weights are logged.
A simple way to do this in Excel for Windows:
- Click anywhere on the chart so the chart area is selected.
- Check that the correct data is selected:
- On the ribbon, go to Chart Design.
- Click Select Data.
- In the Chart data range box, make sure the range covers all current and future rows of your weight log (for example, the full table range, not just the first few rows).
- If needed, reselect the full table:
- In the worksheet, select all columns and rows that contain your dates and weights.
- Then recreate the chart: go to Insert > Insert Line or Area Chart > choose a line chart type (for example, Line with Markers). This will bind the chart to the full range.
If the template uses an Excel table (structured table with filter arrows):
- Confirm that new weight entries are added as new rows inside that table (not outside it). When the chart’s source is the table, it will automatically expand to include new rows.
If dates are not showing correctly on the horizontal axis (for example, missing or filled in between 7‑day intervals), format the axis:
- Right‑click the date axis on the chart and select Format Axis.
- Under Axis type, choose Text axis if dates are weekly labels and should not be auto‑filled between missing dates.
