Cancel Microsoft 365 Family subscription starting today; I don't need it; ordered by mistake when upgrading to Premium

I ordered Microsoft 365 family by mistake and I want to cancel it NOW because I have no use for it. I thought I was just upgrading to premium, which I did. I'd like a refund from today, rather than waiting the 8 months or so when the subscription will end. This is a big mess.

To stop the Microsoft 365 Family subscription and check if a refund is possible, follow these steps:

    1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/microsoft365 and sign in with the same Microsoft account that was used to buy Microsoft 365 Family.
    2. Find the Microsoft 365 Family subscription and select Manage.
    3. On the next page, select Cancel or Cancel subscription (it might show as Upgrade or Cancel).
    4. Scroll through and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the cancellation.

Key points about refunds and cancellation:

    • For Microsoft 365, refund eligibility is checked after cancelling the subscription. Not all cancellations result in a refund.
    • If the subscription was purchased in Canada, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, Korea, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, or Turkey, there may be entitlement to a prorated refund depending on country and subscription length. See the linked “Countries with prorated refunds for Microsoft subscriptions” article in the cancellation page for details.
    • If the subscription was purchased through Google Play or the Apple App Store, cancellation and any refund must be requested through their support, not Microsoft.
    • After cancellation, Microsoft 365 Basic, Personal, Family, or Premium storage reverts to 5 GB of cloud storage (plus 15 GB for Outlook.com). If storage used is above the free allowance, uploading/syncing new OneDrive files and sending/receiving Outlook.com email will eventually be blocked, and OneDrive content may be deleted after a grace period.

If additional help is needed (for example, if the refund option does not appear after cancellation), use the Contact Support option described in the article to reach Microsoft Support and ask them to review refund eligibility for this mistaken purchase.
