Additional Microsoft Defender tools and services that provide security across various platforms and environments
Follow these steps to repair Windows Security and Microsoft Defender so that the security service shows correctly again.
- Automatically fix Windows security components
- Download and run the Windows Security Troubleshooter.
- When prompted, choose Run or Open and follow the on‑screen steps.
- This tool checks and enables key security features such as antivirus protection status and updates, Windows Firewall, SmartScreen, UAC, and DEP.
- If Security Center still will not start
If the Security Center (Windows Security Center) service still does not run correctly after a restart, the underlying problem can be malware or a corrupted registry key for the Security Center service.
- Scan the device with up‑to‑date antivirus software and remove any malware that is found.
- If the issue persists, repair the Security Center registry key as described in the “Security Center service cannot be started” article. This involves:
- Opening Registry Editor.
- Navigating to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\wscsvc. - Deleting this subkey.
- Creating and importing a replacement
.regfile as described in the article.
Once Windows Security and Security Center are working again, Microsoft Defender Antivirus should report its status correctly, which can also help games like Roblox that rely on a healthy Windows security stack.
