Xbox mode is missing in build 26220.8474. The previous build had the Xbox mode button, but it is gone now.

I am enrolled in the Xbox Insider Program. And have "get latest updates as soon as they are available" enabled.

Hello Jeffrey Kollars,

What you're seeing is expected. Xbox mode is being delivered as a gradual / Controlled Feature Rollout, meaning the toggle is gated by a server-side flag rather than being purely tied to your build number. Microsoft set it up this way so they can dial the feature in or out for subsets of devices without shipping a new build, which is why it can appear in one flight and disappear in the next even on the same PC.

This is confirmed in Microsoft's announcement here:

https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2026/04/30/windows-11-pc-gamers-xbox-mode-rolls-out-and-rog-xbox-ally-updates-include-auto-sr-preview/

"Xbox mode will begin rolling out in select markets to Windows 11 PCs... availability expanding to more players in those markets over the next several weeks. Xbox mode is rolling out gradually to ensure a great experience for everyone."

The release notes for build 26220.8474 itself also don't mention Xbox mode at all:

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-insider/release-notes/beta/preview-build-26220-8474

Because the rollout is server-side, Insider channel enrollment and "get latest updates ASAP" both influence which build you receive, but neither forces a CFR flag, so there's no toggle on the user side that guarantees the button appears.

A couple of things worth doing in the meantime:

  • Open Microsoft Store > Library > Get updates and make sure the Xbox app is fully updated, since the latest Xbox app version is part of the requirements.
  • If the button doesn't come back after a few flights, the right channel is Feedback Hub (Win + F). CFR rollouts are tuned based on signal from the Insider population, and that's the only meaningful way to escalate this kind of issue.

It should reappear on a future flight as the rollout widens.
