I am a paying Microsoft 365 Copilot user and I want to report a serious usability issue.

In the Copilot Chat interface (M365), I cannot upload images (PNG/JPG). The file picker does not allow selecting image files, and paste also fails.

This is a critical feature because:

Image upload is already supported in other Copilot versions
It is required for troubleshooting, technical work, and normal AI usage
Competing AI tools support this reliably

Currently, the behavior is inconsistent across Microsoft Copilot products, which creates confusion and makes the paid experience unreliable.

Expected behavior:

Ability to upload and paste images in Copilot Chat with a personal Microsoft 365 subscription

Actual behavior:

Image files (PNG/JPG) cannot be selected or used at all

This should be considered a high-priority issue for paid users.

Please confirm:

Whether this is a known limitation or bug
Whether a fix or rollout is planned
Expected timeline

Funny. I report a problem with Micorsoft AI and it is AI tht answers.

I still find it a huge limitation of the app. This while other competitors do have the ability.

Still wopuld like a real person to reply and address this limitation.

This is a known limitation of Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat today. While Copilot Chat supports file upload and image generation, current documentation and feature descriptions only state support for uploading files for text-based operations (summarize, rewrite, analyze, generate content) and for generating/editing images via dedicated image features. They do not describe general-purpose PNG/JPG image upload into Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat as a standard, guaranteed capability across all experiences.
The available documentation does not state that a fix or change to enable generic PNG/JPG upload in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat is planned. It also does not describe any active rollout to align image upload behavior across all Copilot products.
No timeline is documented for adding or changing image upload behavior in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat.

For image-related capabilities that are currently supported, Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat and Microsoft 365 Copilot provide:

File upload for supported document formats so Copilot can summarize, rewrite, analyze, or generate content based on those files. See the guidance under “File formats supported by Microsoft 365 Copilot” and “upload a file” for details on what is supported.
Image generation and editing via Copilot’s image features, with limitations that all uploaded images for editing must be original and rights-compliant, as described in the image generation documentation.

Because Copilot Chat and Microsoft 365 Copilot differ in capabilities and grounding (web-only vs. organizational content), behavior can vary between experiences. Copilot Chat includes standard access to capabilities like file upload and image generation and is subject to service capacity and availability.
