Reactivate Teams on Microsoft 365

Use the same Microsoft 365 account that has the active subscription to reactivate Teams, then verify licensing and reset activation if needed.

1. In the Teams desktop app, select your profile picture and choose Sign out.
2. Close Teams and all other Microsoft 365 apps (Outlook, Word, etc.).
3. Reopen Teams and sign in with the work or school account that has the valid Microsoft 365 subscription.
4. If you still see “Deactivated Account” or similar messages in other Office apps, open any Office app (for example, Word) and:
   • Go to File > Account.
   • Under User Information, select Sign out for all accounts, then Sign in again with the correct work or school account.
5. If activation problems persist across Microsoft 365 apps, run through the standard activation troubleshooting:
   • Make sure Microsoft 365 is updated: in Word, go to File > Account > Update options > Update now.
   • Reset the activation state as described in Reset activation state for Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise.
   • If prompted with account or subscription errors, follow the guidance in the account/subscription troubleshooting article.
6. If using a business/enterprise subscription and the issue continues, contact the Microsoft 365 admin for the organization and ask them to:
   • Open the Microsoft 365 Admin Center and verify that the user account has an active license assigned that includes Teams.
   • If needed, toggle the license off and back on for the user, then save changes.

If the subscription is actually expired or suspended, the admin must reactivate it in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center before Teams will work normally.
