Copilot can be turned off or removed in several places, depending on where it appears.

1. To uninstall the Copilot app in Windows
   • Windows 11: Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Search for Copilot, select the … menu next to it, then choose Uninstall.
   • Windows 10: Go to Settings > Apps. Search for Copilot, select it, then choose Uninstall.
   • The app can be reinstalled later from the Microsoft Store if needed.
2. To turn off Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote (Microsoft 365 apps)
   • On Windows (for supported versions):
     1. Open the app (for example, Word).
     2. Go to File > Options > Copilot.
     3. Clear the Enable Copilot checkbox.
     4. Select OK, then close and restart the app.
   • On Mac (for supported versions):
     1. In the app (for example, Word), open the app menu.
     2. Go to Preferences > Authoring and Proofing Tools > Copilot.
     3. Clear the Enable Copilot checkbox.
     4. Close and restart the app.
   • Repeat these steps in each app where Copilot should be disabled. The setting is per app and per device.
3. To turn off Copilot in Outlook
   • Use the Turn on Copilot toggle (new Outlook and other platforms):
     • Android: Quick Settings > Copilot.
     • iOS: Quick Settings > Copilot.
     • Mac: Quick Settings > Copilot.
     • Web: Settings > Copilot.
     • Windows (new Outlook): Settings > Copilot.
   • Turn the toggle off. This applies to Outlook on all devices where the same account is used.
4. To disable Copilot in Microsoft 365 apps if the checkbox is not available
   • Change account privacy settings as described in the “Change your privacy settings to turn off Copilot” section of the Copilot-in-Office article. Note that this also turns off other connected experiences (such as suggested replies in Outlook, text predictions, PowerPoint Designer, and automatic alt text).
5. To prevent or remove the Copilot app in managed/enterprise environments
   • IT admins can:
     • Uninstall the Copilot app via Settings > Apps > Installed Apps on each device.
     • Use AppLocker to prevent installation of the MICROSOFT.COPILOT package, as described in the Windows Copilot management documentation.
6. To cancel a Copilot Pro subscription (if subscribed)
   1. Go to the Services & subscriptions page for the Microsoft account used to buy Copilot Pro.
   2. Locate the Copilot Pro subscription and select Manage.
   3. Select Cancel, then follow the on-screen steps. If within the refund window, a refund may be issued; otherwise, recurring billing can be turned off so it does not renew.
