account loss

when i accepted the TOS after creating my Microsoft account, it was under the impression that my account would be secure due to them saying "safeguarding my account is a top priority", yet they where lying this entire time. in the multiple tickets i have created, multiple agents i have spoken to, i have come to learn that they don't care about your account, or what that account means to you. my main Microsoft account was hacked on 13th or 14th of may 2026, I've created multiple account recovery tickets and i get the same response every, single, time. which is: "we have confirmed that unauthorized access occurred" now after hearing that first bit you best be thinking okay, so they found the hacker, but then this is what they say next. "During the investigation, we discovered that the security information on your account has been changed. and due to our strict protocols and terms outlined in the Microsoft services agreement, we are unable to modify or restore the security settings..."

tell me this, what do you think of when you first hear a hacker? because im not sure about you guys, but i think of someone who steals information and sells it. so in Microsoft's non bullshit way of speaking, they just said:

"well, we know there's a hacker on your account, but because he's a hacker, he changed your security settings, so we are unable to do anything as he now owns your account. we recommend you create a new Microsoft account and pay us more money with a new Minecraft."

its a load of corporate bullshit. i gave them proof i owned the Gmail. i gave them my device id, i gave them the hackers outlook email, everything. yet they are still on the hackers side, i would like to sue them, and will hopefully take this further as a security risk.

thanks - hacked user

For a hacked personal Microsoft account where the security info has been changed by an attacker, the available options are limited to Microsoft’s documented recovery and legal processes.

    1. Account recovery is automated and final
    • For consumer Microsoft accounts (Outlook/Hotmail/Xbox/Minecraft, etc.), ownership is verified only through the automated recovery systems and the security information on the account.
    • If a hacker has replaced the security info and the recovery form cannot verify ownership, support agents are not allowed to override the result or manually change security settings.
    • When the recovery request is not granted, the documented guidance is to keep trying the recovery form (up to two times per day) with as much accurate information as possible. If it still fails, the account is treated as unrecoverable.
      • See: “Account recovery unsuccessful” and “How to recover a hacked or compromised Microsoft account”.
    1. What can still be done technically
    • Use the official hacked/compromised account guidance to ensure all devices and other accounts are secure, and to understand the limits of what Microsoft can do:
    • If the recovery form is failing due to technical errors (not just “not enough info”), use the Sign-In Helper and/or support contact flows described in similar cases to report the issue and ask for help with the process itself, not for a manual override.
    1. When Microsoft will not restore access
    • If the attacker has changed the email/phone and the automated recovery checks cannot confirm ownership, Microsoft’s own support content and Q&A answers state that the account may not be recoverable, even if:
      • Old passwords, device IDs, or transaction IDs are available.
      • The original email address (e.g., Gmail used as alias) is still controlled.
    • This is by design under the Microsoft Services Agreement and internal security protocols; agents are not permitted to “take sides” and reassign the account without passing the automated checks.
    1. Legal/escalation aspects
    • For ordinary hacked consumer accounts, Microsoft’s documented path is the automated recovery process; there is no separate “legal” channel to force manual account restoration.
    • Legal processes (subpoena/court order) described in the documentation apply to accessing data of deceased or incapacitated users, not to resolving standard account-takeover disputes.
    • The documentation explicitly notes that even with a subpoena or court order, Microsoft may still be unable to provide account contents, and there is no guarantee of access.
    1. Practical next steps
    • Continue to attempt recovery using the official form and guidance if not yet exhausted.
    • Secure all other accounts (email, banking, gaming) that may have used the same password or email.
    • For purchases tied to the account (for example, Minecraft), contact the specific product’s support (e.g., Minecraft Support) to ask about options, understanding that recovery is not guaranteed.
    • If financial fraud has occurred (unauthorized charges), dispute those through the payment provider and, where applicable, contact Microsoft billing support using official support channels.

There is no documented Microsoft process that supports using a lawsuit as a mechanism to restore a hacked consumer account or to override the automated security decisions. All official guidance points back to the recovery tools and, in special cases like deceased users, to formal legal service that still may not result in access.
