When I try to synchronize OneNote, I get the following message:

Aus einem unbekannten Grund kann keine Verbindung mit dem Server hergestellt werden. Überprüfen Sie die Verbindung, und stellen Sie sicher, dass der Server verfügbar ist. (Fehlercode: 0x80072EFD bdf5j)

When I try to add a new note on my computer, I am told that it is not possible due to one of the following reasons:

location https://d.docs.live.net/[list of numbers and letters]/Dokumente/OneNote-Notizbüher/Test PC

is not avalable

I am not permitted to change this location

Name of path contains unallowed items

Name of path too long

Error 0x80072EFD indicates that OneNote cannot reach the server where the notebook is stored. The message and the path https://d.docs.live.net/... show that the notebook is on OneDrive and currently not accessible.

    Use these steps to troubleshoot:

    1. Check network and server availability
      • Confirm that the PC has a working Internet connection (e.g., open a website in a browser).
      • In a browser, go to the OneDrive home page (https://www.onedrive.com) and sign in.
      • Verify that the notebook folder and file still exist in OneDrive under Dokumente/OneNote-Notizbücher.
    2. Retry sync manually in OneNote
      • In OneNote, press Shift+F9 or open the Notebook Sync Status dialog and select Sync Now.
      • If the issue was a temporary network or server problem, the sync should resume.
    3. Verify that the notebook still exists and the path is valid
      • If the notebook was deleted or moved in OneDrive, OneNote will not be able to sync to the old location.
      • In OneNote, go to File > Info and check the notebook address. Compare it with the location in OneDrive.
      • If the notebook has been moved/renamed, open it from OneDrive again so OneNote uses the new path.
    4. Check for permission or account issues
      • If the notebook is shared, confirm that access has not been revoked and that the correct Microsoft account is signed in.
      • If prompted by OneNote with a sync error banner, click it to refresh the session and re‑enter account credentials if required.
    5. Wait and retry if it is a temporary service issue
      • If OneDrive or the underlying service is temporarily unavailable, wait a while and try syncing again.

If the path warning persists ("location not available", "not permitted", or "name of path too long"), and the notebook exists and is accessible in OneDrive via the browser, create a new notebook in a simpler path (for example directly under Dokumente/OneNote-Notizbücher with a short name) and move/copy sections into it from OneNote.
