Completing a Microsoft Learn course or learning path (for example, “Python for beginners”) does not automatically grant a Microsoft certification. Microsoft certifications are earned by passing a specific certification exam or, in the case of Microsoft Essentials Professional Certificates, by completing a defined learning path plus a summative assessment.
For Microsoft certifications (like Azure AI Fundamentals):
- Choose a certification
- Go to Microsoft’s Technical Certifications catalog to see available certifications and their required exams.
- Example: Microsoft Certified: Azure AI Fundamentals is a beginner-level certification that validates knowledge of AI and related Azure services.
- Prepare for the exam
- Use self-paced content on Microsoft Learn or instructor-led training to cover the skills measured by the exam.
- Schedule and pass the exam
- Register for the required exam through an authorized exam provider (such as Pearson VUE) from the certification page.
- After passing, the certification will appear in the Credentials section of the Microsoft Learn profile.
For Microsoft Essentials Professional Certificates (not the same as role-based certifications):
- Enroll in a Microsoft Essentials Professional Certificate on LinkedIn Learning
- Examples currently available include:
- Microsoft Azure AI Essentials Professional Certificate
- Microsoft Security Essentials Professional Certificate
- Examples currently available include:
- Complete the full LinkedIn Learning path
- Finishing the path unlocks access to a free, on-demand summative assessment on LinkedIn.
- Pass the summative assessment
- Passing the assessment earns the Microsoft Essentials Professional Certificate, which can then be shared on professional networks or added to a résumé.
Important notes for Python courses:
- There are no Microsoft exams or certifications specifically for Python. Completing a “Python for beginners” course may give a course completion badge or record of completion, but it does not map to a Microsoft certification exam.
- To earn an official Microsoft certification, select a supported certification (for example, Azure AI Fundamentals) and pass its associated exam.
To view or share earned certifications:
- Sign in to Microsoft Learn and open the Credentials → Certifications tab to see available badges and certificates.
