Word files gone blank

This is usually caused by a rendering/display issue in the Microsoft Word mobile app on Samsung devices rather than the document itself. Since the files display correctly after converting to PDF, the content is still there — Word just is not rendering the page properly.

A few things commonly fix this on Samsung phones. Samsung rendering issues sometimes come from WebView/Chrome components.:

1. Update the apps

• Update Microsoft Word
• Update Samsung Electronics system software
• Update Android System WebView
• Update Google Chrome

1. Disable dark mode for Word. Another common Samsung issue is dark mode making document pages appear blank/white-on-white. In Word:

• Tap profile/settings
• Theme → Light

If the files convert to PDF just fine, the actual documents are definitely intact and the Word app is just bugging out when trying to display them on your phone screen.

Try the easiest fix first which is dumping the app cache. Head into your Samsung settings, go to the apps menu, scroll down until you find Word, tap on storage, and hit the clear cache button. Force close the Word app, launch it again, and check if your pages still show up blank.
