How to fix SwiftKey prediction bar disappearing on Android?

I am using two modern Android phones with Android 15 and 16 respectively. Multiple times a day the prediction bar disappears and tapping the Swiftkey app to open it usually fixes it. It has been like this for years on different devices with different versions of Android. I have of course allowed it to run in the background and followed all the recommended steps. What I would like to know if is this is a known bug?

Funny that the manual tags don't include Android or Swiftkey and the generator is just dumb.

This behavior is not documented in the provided material as a known SwiftKey bug. However, there are several documented reasons why predictions (and therefore the prediction bar content) may appear to “disappear” on Android, and steps that can help stabilize it:

    1. Confirm SwiftKey is actually active
      • Go to device Settings → Language & input.
      • Ensure Microsoft SwiftKey Keyboard is enabled and set as the default keyboard.
      • In any text field, use the keyboard icon in the notification bar and explicitly choose Microsoft SwiftKey Keyboard.
    2. Be aware of fields where predictions are intentionally disabled
      • SwiftKey deliberately does not offer predictions in some fields (for example, password fields) and in some apps whose code conflicts with SwiftKey’s prediction system. In those cases the prediction bar will not show predictions by design.
    3. Check Backup & Sync and language packs
      • Open the Microsoft SwiftKey app.
      • Go to Account → Backup & Sync.
      • Ensure Backup & Sync is enabled and that it has synced recently. If not, toggle it off/on to force a sync.
      • If a language pack download has failed, predictions will not appear. Make sure the device has a strong Wi‑Fi connection and enough free storage, then retry the language download.
      • If the device’s SD card is mounted to a PC via USB, predictions will not appear because language models are stored on the SD card.
    4. Full reset/reinstall if the issue persists If the above checks do not help, the documented recovery path for prediction issues is:
      1. Open Microsoft SwiftKey.
      2. Tap Account, then at the bottom select Log out.
      3. On the device, go to Settings → Apps → Microsoft SwiftKey Keyboard.
      4. Tap Storage → Clear data. Then restart the phone.
      5. Uninstall the Microsoft SwiftKey app.
      6. Reinstall it from Google Play and complete setup.
      7. Log back into the SwiftKey account to restore predictions, then test by typing something that should be predicted (for example, an email address).

Note: Clearing data and reinstalling will remove local items such as status, settings, clipboard items, and photo themes.

If, after these steps, the prediction bar still disappears multiple times a day across devices, the next step is to contact SwiftKey Support directly, as the public documentation only covers the above causes and recovery steps.
