KB5089549 provides OS builds 26200.8457 and 26100.8457 to devices on the Windows Insider Release Preview Channel through Windows Update.
The behavior for Release Preview builds in Windows Update follows the same servicing model as other recent cumulative updates:
- Servicing Stack Updates (SSU) are combined with the Latest Cumulative Update (LCU), so installing the build from Windows Update automatically applies the required SSU.
- On consumer devices, Release Preview updates are offered and installed via Windows Update when the device is enrolled in the Release Preview Channel and meets the eligibility requirements for that build.
- In managed/business environments using Windows Update for Business, the update is delivered automatically according to the configured policies for that channel and ring.
To obtain a Release Preview build when it is available for the device:
- Ensure the device is enrolled in the Windows Insider Release Preview Channel.
- Open Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Use Check for updates; the corresponding Release Preview build (such as 26100.x or 26200.x) is then downloaded and installed according to the channel’s servicing behavior.
These behaviors are consistent with other documented Release Preview and cumulative updates such as KB5058411, KB5053598, KB5058499, and KB5063878, which are all delivered automatically via Windows Update/Windows Update for Business once available to the device.
