Here's the step-by-step instructions:
Step 1: Open Settings
- Click the Start button at the bottom left of the screen
- Click Settings (the gear icon)
Step 2: Go to Accounts
- In Settings, click Accounts
- On the left side, click Family & other users
Step 3: Add a new account
- Under Other users, click Add account
- When it asks for an email address, click I don’t have this person’s sign‑in information
- On the next screen, click Add a user without a Microsoft account
Step 4: Create the local account
- For User name, type something simple, for example TestAdmin
- You can leave the password blank
- Click Next
At this point, the account exists, but it is not an administrator yet.
Step 5: Make it an administrator
- Still on the Family & other users page
- Click the account you just created (TestAdmin)
- Click Change account type
- Set it to Administrator
- Click OK
This is now a local administrator account.
Step 6: Sign into the test account
- Click Start
- Click your profile name
- Click Sign out
- On the sign‑in screen, choose TestAdmin
- Wait while Windows sets it up, this may take a minute
Step 7: Turn on Windows Spotlight
- Open Settings
- Go to Personalization
- Click Lock screen
- Under Background, select Windows Spotlight
Step 8: Restart and watch
- Restart the PC
- When the lock screen appears, watch closely Does the Spotlight picture stay on screen, or does it disappear again?
