Hi John Hilliard,
Since the Spotlight feature works correctly on the test account but not on your main account, it confirms the issue is specific to your user profile (rather than the device or Windows itself). This usually happens when certain profile-level settings become inconsistent and override Spotlight after it loads.
Here are some next steps to address your profile:
1, Reset only the Spotlight settings for your account
- Press Win + R
- Paste:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy\Settings - Rename:
-
settings.dat>settings.dat.bak -
roaming.lock>roaming.lock.bak
-
2, Restart and reapply Spotlight
- Restart your PC
- Go to Settings > Personalization > Lock screen
- Set Background = Windows Spotlight
At this point, the remaining cause is typically limited to the current user profile itself. In that scenario, the most reliable path is to continue using the new account where Spotlight works correctly or migrate your data to it.
