The Azure nonprofit grant credit only appears on the specific billing account, billing profile, and tenant where it was activated. If it shows as “accepted/activated” in the Nonprofit portal but not as a credit in Cost Management + Billing, check these areas step by step:
- Confirm the correct tenant and account are in use
- Sign in to the Azure portal.
- In the top-right corner, select the profile and use Switch directory.
- Under All directories, select the directory that’s associated with the nonprofit grant, then go back to Cost Management + Billing and check again.
- If there are multiple identities (work/school vs personal) on the same email, open an InPrivate/Incognito window and sign in, explicitly choosing the identity that was used to activate the grant.
- Make sure the right email/identity is used
- The Azure grant must be activated by the primary contact listed on the offer in the Nonprofit Hub.
- If signed in with an account that can manage resources but does not have permission on the billing account where the grant was applied, the credit will not be visible. Sign out and sign back in with the email/identity that is the grant’s primary contact and has billing permissions.
- Verify the grant was actually activated onto a billing profile
- In the Nonprofit Hub, go to Offers and locate the Azure $2,000 Sponsorship.
- Confirm that Activate has been completed (not just requested). During activation, the wizard must:
- Accept the Azure Sponsorship terms.
- Either attach the credit to an existing billing profile or create a new one.
- If activation was not fully completed within the wizard, finish that process so the credit can be deposited.
- Check the correct billing account and billing profile in Azure
- In the Azure portal, go to Cost Management + Billing.
- At the top, ensure the correct Billing account is selected (the one chosen during grant activation).
- Under Billing → Payment methods, open the Azure Credits tab.
- Verify that:
- The correct billing profile is selected.
- The grant balance appears there.
- If the balance does not appear:
- Re-check that the right billing account/billing profile is active.
- Use the guidance in Billing accounts and scopes in the Azure portal (linked from the docs) to confirm the active scope.
- Consider legacy sponsorship vs modern grant
- If the organization is still on a legacy Azure Sponsorship (common in some regions, including China and India), the balance will not show under Azure Credits in the modern billing experience.
- In that case, sign in to the Azure Sponsorships portal with the account owner credentials (typically a
.onmicrosoft.comaddress used during grant setup) to see remaining balance, usage, and expiration.
- If the credit still does not appear
- If the grant is visible and marked active in the Nonprofit Hub but no credit shows under any billing account/profile in the correct tenant, or it appears to be attached to the wrong billing profile, support intervention is required.
- Use the Contact us option in the Nonprofit Hub or create an Azure billing support request from the Azure portal so support can:
- Confirm where the grant was deposited.
- Move the grant to the correct billing profile if needed (using the product transfer process referenced in the FAQ).
Following these steps usually resolves cases where the nonprofit Azure grant is activated but not visible as a credit in the expected billing account.
