How to get my MS Edge to be able to connect to the internet. It seems to be blocked by a firewall or Webroot.

Yesterday I inadvertently clicked on "Block" when Webroot sent a message that MS Edge was trying to load. Now when I clicked on my email icon it won't access my email or outlook!!!

To restore Microsoft Edge access after it was blocked, follow these steps and then verify Edge can reach the internet.

    1. Confirm Edge itself works
    • Open Edge directly (not via the email icon).
    • If Edge does not open at all or fails to load any site, reinstall/repair Edge:
      • Download the latest Edge installer and run it to reinstall Edge on top of the existing installation. This is a supported way to repair a broken Edge install and can fix issues where Edge will not start or connect.
    1. Check network and firewall basics
    • Make sure Windows can access the internet using another browser or app.
    • If using a VPN, disconnect it temporarily and test again. VPNs and firewalls can block Edge from downloading or updating correctly.
    • If a corporate or home firewall is in use, ensure that the following are allowed so Edge can update and function correctly:
      • https://msedge.api.cdp.microsoft.com (used by Edge to check for updates)
      • *.dl.delivery.mp.microsoft.com (used to download Edge during install/update)
    1. Undo the Webroot block
    • Open Webroot’s main console.
    • Go to its settings or quarantine/blocked applications list (names vary by version, often under “PC Security”, “Block/Allow Files”, or similar).
    • Locate Microsoft Edge (typically msedge.exe) in the blocked list.
    • Change its status from Block to Allow (or remove it from the blocked list so Webroot prompts again next time and choose Allow).
    • Restart Edge and test access to websites and Outlook.com/your email provider.
    1. If Outlook.com or webmail still does not load
    • Some security tools, ad blockers, or browser extensions can interfere with Outlook.com and other email sites.
    • In Edge:
      • Open a new InPrivate window and try your email site there.
      • If it works in InPrivate, disable or remove problematic extensions (especially ad blockers or privacy tools) from Edge.
    1. If Edge still cannot reach the internet
    • Run the Windows Program Compatibility Troubleshooter for Edge:
      • Select Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
      • Find Program Compatibility Troubleshooter and select Run, then follow the prompts for Microsoft Edge.
    • Ensure Windows itself is up to date:
      • Select Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates, then install any available updates and restart.

After these steps, Edge should no longer be blocked by Webroot or the firewall and should be able to open email and Outlook again.

Hi there, Thanks for posting here in Microsoft Community. Just a quick test, try to temporarily pause Webroot protection after that try opening Outlook / Mail. If it works while paused, Webroot was definitely the blocker. Let me know how it goes then we'll continue with what to do next. Hoping to hear from you soon. : )
