To prepare the old Surface Book for someone else, sign out of Outlook on the web and from Office apps, and consider removing the account from Windows.
- Sign out of Outlook.com / Hotmail in the browser
If using Outlook.com/Hotmail in a browser on the Surface Book:- Go to Outlook.com.
- Select the account initials or picture in the top corner of the Inbox.
- Select Sign out.
- Close all browser windows so the session is fully ended.
- Sign out of Outlook on the web for work or school accounts
If using Outlook on the web with a work or school account:- In Outlook on the web, select Account manager (picture/initials in the top corner).
- Select Sign out.
- Sign out of Office/Outlook apps on the device
If Outlook is installed as part of Microsoft 365 or Office on the Surface Book:- Open any Office app (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Go to File > Account (or Office Account in Outlook).
- Choose Sign out next to the account.
- Close all Office apps.
- If using the Outlook.com app scenario
For Outlook apps tied to Outlook.com/Hotmail, it is no longer possible to sign out of the Outlook app itself or require a password each time. In that case, ensure the Windows user account on the Surface Book is not shared:- Create a separate Windows user account for the new user and stop using the old one, or
- Remove the Microsoft account from Settings > Accounts if appropriate.
- Optional: Sign out everywhere if worried about other devices
If there is concern about being signed in on other devices as well, see How to sign out everywhere from the referenced articles.
