Sending, receiving, and organizing email in Outlook.com
For a case where only specific senders’ messages are not received while sending works, use the following checks and fixes in Outlook/Outlook.com:
- Check “Other” tab and filters
- In Outlook.com, open the mailbox and check the Other tab (Focused/Other inbox).
- Select Filter and make sure no filters (such as “Unread”, “Flagged”, or a specific category) are hiding messages.
- Check Junk Email folder and settings
- Open the Junk Email folder and look for messages from the affected senders.
- If any are found, right-click each message and choose Mark as not junk to move them back to the Inbox.
- Open Junk Email settings and confirm that the affected addresses/domains are not listed as blocked.
- Review rules that may divert or delete mail
- In Outlook.com, open Rules and check for any rules that:
- Move messages to unexpected folders (including RSS or custom folders), or
- Delete messages automatically.
- Disable or delete suspicious rules and test again.
- Check forwarding settings
- Verify that email forwarding is not enabled to another address, or if it is, that “Keep a copy of forwarded messages” is enabled so copies remain in the mailbox.
- Verify mailbox storage
- Check storage usage to ensure the mailbox is not full. If storage is at or over quota, delete or archive messages so new mail can be delivered.
- Ask senders to review their side
- Since senders do not see error notifications, ask them to:
- Confirm they are using the correct address.
- Check their own non-delivery reports (if any) and follow the guidance in Sender Support in Outlook.com.
- If using Outlook desktop/classic Outlook
- If messages appear in Outlook.com web but not in the Outlook client, repair the Outlook profile:
- Follow Fix your Outlook email connection by repairing your profile.
- If messages do not appear even on the web, the issue is server-side (rules, junk, forwarding, or storage) and must be fixed there.
If these steps do not restore delivery from the specific addresses, use the Outlook.com interactive troubleshooter and, if needed, contact Outlook.com support from within the signed-in account for further investigation.
