A family of Microsoft products that enable users to capture, organize, and reuse notes electronically.
Hi Rupinder,
On iOS, OneNote relies heavily on cloud sync (OneDrive). As a result, if the sync process is interrupted, notebooks may temporarily disappear from the app even though there’s a strong chance they still exist in the cloud.
Please go through the following steps carefully to locate your notes:
1/ Verify the account in OneNote
- Open OneNote
- Tap your profile icon (top-left corner)
- Confirm the email address currently signed in
If you’re signed in with a different account, your notebooks will not appear—even though your data is still stored elsewhere.
2/ Check your notebook from a browser
On your iPad (using Safari or another browser), please visit:
Then, sign in with your account.
Look for your notebook under your files or notebooks list
If you see your notebook, it means your data is safe.
3/ Reset the OneNote app (clear app state)
To ensure a clean sync:
- Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage
- Select OneNote
You will see two options:
Offload App
- Removes the app but keeps its data
- May not fully fix sync issues
Delete App
- Completely removes the app and all cached data
It is recommended to select Delete App to fully clear any corrupted cache.
- Reinstall OneNote from the App Store
- Sign back in using the correct account
4/ Check OneDrive Recycle Bin
If the notebook doesn’t appear, please go to OneDrive (via browser)
Open the Recycle Bin
Restore anything related to your notebook

5/ Contact Microsoft Support:
If you’re still unable to locate your notes after these steps, the most effective next step is reaching out to your IT admin and ask them to use their admin credentials to submit a support request through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
Microsoft also provides customer service phone numbers based on your region. Your IT admin can find the appropriate contact number here: Customer service phone numbers - Microsoft Support
This route ensures that a Microsoft support engineer can initiate a remote session to investigate backend configurations, run advanced diagnostic tools, and, if necessary, escalate the case to specialized teams with access to internal systems and logs. These backend resources are essential for resolving issues that go beyond what’s visible in the user interface.
As community moderators, we’re here to guide you, but due to privacy and security limitations, we don’t have access to the backend tools required for a full resolution. For this reason, contacting Microsoft Support via the Admin Center is the most secure and efficient way forward.
I hope this helps you resolve the issue quickly. I’m glad to assist and truly hope the information provided has been useful. Please feel free to reach out anytime if you need further assistance.
