Follow these steps to identify or fix issues with the family organizer in Microsoft Family Safety:

    1. Check which family group the account is in
      1. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/family and sign in with the Microsoft account that is having problems.
      2. On the family page, look at the list of people shown:
        • If a family is listed, each person will show a role such as Organizer or Member.
        • The people marked Organizer are the family organizers.
        • If no family members are shown, the account is not currently in a Microsoft family group.
    2. Understand organizer vs member
      • Family organizers are the administrators of the family group. They can add/remove members, manage limits and permissions, and view activity for members with reporting enabled.
      • Family members can be any age but cannot change organizer-level settings.
    3. If Family Safety restrictions are being applied but no family is visible
      • Sign in at https://account.microsoft.com/family and confirm that no family members are listed.
      • If restrictions still appear on the device even though no family is shown, run a Family Safety reset on each affected Windows device:
        1. Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
        2. Type cmd and select OK.
        3. In the Command Prompt, type:
                  schtasks /run /tn "Microsoft\Windows\Shell\FamilySafetyRefreshTask"

          and press Enter.
        4. Restart the computer.
    4. If the account is an organizer but still sees restrictions
      • Even as an organizer, if the device still enforces Family Safety settings, use the same reset steps above on each impacted device.
    5. If the issue is that restrictions from a family organizer are incorrect
      • Only an organizer in that family group can change or remove those restrictions.
      • If another organizer is listed that is not recognized, sign in as that organizer (if possible) and adjust or remove restrictions, or remove the affected account from the family group.

For managing roles and restrictions more generally:

    • To see all participants and roles, an organizer can sign in at https://account.microsoft.com/family/home/settings.
    • To stop activity reporting for an account that has become an adult, an organizer can select that member and turn off Activity reporting on each device platform tab.
